  Answers
What is a URL?

A URL is a Uniform Resource Locator. This is the domain name or IP address of a web site, for example www.censorit.com

What is a referral code?

A referral code may appear in an e-mail or letter as part of the censorit sales and marketing campaign and is captured during the registration process.

What is an 'unblockme' request?

If a web site or URL has been blocked by censorit, the child can contest this by clicking on the 'unblockme' link on the 'denied page'. Click here to see the access denied message

This action will then place the unblockme request in the 'pending queue' for the parents approval from within the web portal.

  • If the request is not actioned, it will continue to be blocked
  • If the request is 'allowed', the URL is added to the White list
  • If the request is 'denied' the URL is added to the Blacklist

It is recommended that parents view the contents of the site prior to approving any request.

This simple process is summarised by the following diagram:

What will I see if my child has attempted to view inappropriate material?

The 'Activity Monitor' will show this symbol next to the URL to indicate access to the web site was allowed.

What is over blocking?

Over blocking is a term used to describe content filters that are too sensitive and block sites that they shouldn't. Censorit try very hard to ensure there is a balance between blocking inappropriate content and blocking access to content that should be available to your child.

Due to censorit's innovative approach to this market, we have provided the facility for your child to contest any site that is blocked for them that they feel they should be able to access. Click here for more information on the 'unblockme' feature.

What is a Black list?

censorit has a global blacklist which contains many millions of URL's that are considered as inappropriate for children.

When reviewing web sites / URL's within the 'Activity Monitor' from within the censorit web portal, you may find that some web sites that have been accessed by your child are not appropriate and as a result you may want to stop this happening again. You have the capability of over-riding censorit's policy and blacklisting the site yourself by clicking on the link 'deny' next to the URL.

  What is a White list?

A white list is a list of web sites / URL's that you deem appropriate for your child

Why does censorit block web based email?

censorit blocks all web based email for the safety of the child. As a parent, this policy can be overridden by taken advantage of the 'unblockme' functionality.

When is the activity information updated in the web portal?

The censorit web portal will show the activity logs for the previous day.

The 'Activity Monitor' includes ALL sites that have been requested by your child. The results are displayed showing which web sites / URL's were seen by your child and those that were blocked from view (if any).

As a parent you can view the daily activity for the last 7 days. After that period, the data is purged.

Why do I not see any usage reports for a user?

All devices have the capability of being reset back to the original manufacturer's settings.

If the device has been reset, the Parental Controls (if in existence) and the Proxy configuration will not be in place.

You can view the configuration steps for your device from within the censorit web portal.
