censorit is a UK based company created to protect a child's web browsing experience on Wi-Fi enabled internet devices, such as games consoles and media players.
With today’s web content consisting of millions of pages, a large proportion of those pages will contain material that is not appropriate for minors.
In the UK, access to web and wap sites using the mobile phone is regulated by Ofcom and as a result unrestricted Internet access is only available to those older than eighteen.
With the introduction of Wi-Fi (wireless networking) on many smart phones and gaming consoles, a child can access inappropriate content as soon as the device is connected to the web using the home or public Wi-Fi.
Although the mobile device may be used to access the content, the Mobile Operator is not responsible for providing a safe experience as the mobile device is connecting to the internet using Wi-Fi. The software purchased for the PC or the Mac is ineffective in this case and as, a result, the child is completely exposed to all types of material.

“More and more parents understand the importance of keeping their children safe online,” said John Carr, Secretary of the Children’s Charities’ Coalition on Internet Safety. “However, up until now the focus has been largely about computers whereas increasingly, the focus is shifting to games consoles and mobile devices. This is why I’m pleased that Censorit is drawing attention to this broader issue with the launch of an excellent service.”
